Infosys, Formula E introduce AI-powered race platform to enhance global fan engagement

Bangalore, India – Infosys and Formula E have announced the rollout of an AI-driven Race Centre designed to improve how audiences follow and engage with race events. The platform is supported by Infosys Topaz and forms part of the company’s ongoing collaboration, with Infosys serving as the series’ digital innovation partner.

The Race Centre functions as an integrated digital environment that combines race data, analytics, and multimedia content to provide a more comprehensive viewing experience. It brings together features such as AI-generated race narration, interactive fan participation tools, explainer content, live weather updates, race control information, and tracking of key race elements, including pit strategies and performance modes.

By merging live race feeds with AI-enabled insights, the system aims to offer clearer context around on-track developments while maintaining engagement outside the race calendar.

“Formula E is a powerful platform to demonstrate how AI can reshape sports,” Sumit Virmani, global chief marketing officer at Infosys, stated.

“This season, fans can expect intelligent commentary, deeper explainers, and richer interactions that extend beyond the broadcast window. Together with Formula E, we’re building a futuristic blueprint of how AI can reimagine performance, storytelling, and experiences for millions of fans.”

Among its capabilities is a generative AI engine that produces real-time commentary based on evolving race conditions. The platform also incorporates interactive elements, allowing users to forecast podium outcomes during practice and qualifying sessions and participate in fan voting initiatives.

Additional tools include visual tracking of mandatory fast-charging pit stops in selected races and a driver-focused timeline that highlights significant moments such as overtakes and strategic activations.

The system is underpinned by an AI-based data orchestration framework that processes more than 1.5 million data points per race. This information is consolidated into a central dashboard, presenting race positions and vehicle movements through a two-dimensional circuit visualisation. The approach is intended to simplify complex data streams and make race dynamics more accessible to a broader audience.

“Formula E’s vision is to lead the future of sustainable motorsport, and technology is the catalyst that continues to push our sport forward,” Jeff Dodds, chief executive officer of  Formula E, commented.

“With Infosys, we’re elevating how fans experience every lap with clearer insights, more interactive moments, and greater accessibility to the stories unfolding on and off the track. Looking ahead, this platform sets the stage for a smarter, more connected future in which innovation and electric racing move forward together.”

The Race Centre is positioned to support fans throughout the full race cycle, covering practice sessions, qualifying rounds, race day, and post-event analysis.

By consolidating multiple digital touchpoints into a single platform, it aligns with Formula E’s efforts to expand its global audience, particularly among younger and digitally engaged viewers, while enabling more tailored content delivery.
