Manila, Philippines – With artificial intelligence reshaping the workplace, a recent collaboration report by software development firm Microsoft and LinkedIn revealed that the Philippines leads the world in terms of AI adoption among knowledge workers.

In this report, it was observed that 86% of knowledge workers in the country are using artificial intelligence at work, a relatively higher figure than the global average of 75% and the regional average of 83%.

Despite this high adoption rate, Philippine companies, however, still lag in implementing the technology, with 83% of users relying on personal AI tools at work. According to Microsoft, this particular move introduces privacy, security, and legal risks for companies.

Furthermore, the report also suggests that, aside from banks and telcos, other sectors such as retail, manufacturing, airlines, transport, and logistics are also exploring the deployment of AI.

Speaking about the findings, Peter Maquera, chief executive officer at Microsoft Philippines, said, “In terms of the workforce, our 2024 Work Trend Index shows Filipino employees are leading not just Asia but the world in leveraging AI to help boost productivity, efficiency, and creativity.”

He also noted that although the company supports government regulation of artificial intelligence, it also warns them against the potential risks associated with the technology’s overregulation.

More specifically, Maquera stressed the importance of AI developers creating a technology that is safe, secure, and trustworthy. At the same time, he further stated that the approach to AI must be balanced.

Meanwhile, Josh Aquino, head of communication at Microsoft Philippines, also said, “Our responsibility is to be absolutely committed to AI being safe for everyone.”
