Malaysia – Petronas, a global energy company in Malaysia, has recently announced that it has collaborated with oil and gas firm Earth Science Analytics and Amazon Web Services, an IT services and consulting firm. This partnership is designed to advance the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies in the country’s oil and gas sector.

Aside from the said goal, the initiative further seeks to enhance exploration activities in the Malay Basin and strengthen the data capabilities of Petronas’ myPROdata platform.

According to the firm, their recent alliance with ESA will focus on creating subsurface workflows powered by artificial intelligence, along with the use of ESA’s EarthNET platform and Petronas myPROdata. This strategy aims to bolster subsurface data analytics and interpretation, streamlining hydrocarbon exploration in the mature Malay Basin, offshore Peninsular Malaysia.

On the other hand, the collaboration with AWS is designed to improve Petronas myPROdata platform through AI and data analytics. In particular, AWS will assist Petronas in incorporating advanced AI and ML functionalities to enhance the user experience and simplify data management processes.

Said enhancement is anticipated to significantly upgrade operational capabilities, allowing potential investors to make more informed, data-driven decisions in the country’s exploration and production sectors.

Datuk Ir. Bacho Pilong, senior vice president at Petronas’ MPM, said, “These collaborations are pivotal in reinforcing Petronas’ commitment to innovation as we gear up for Malaysia Bid Round (MBR) 2025.”

“By leveraging advanced AI and ML capabilities, we aim to empower our investors and Petroleum Arrangement Contractors with richer data insights and more streamlined processes, driving smarter decision-making and ensuring a more efficient, impactful bid round for all participants,” he further explained.
