Bangkok, Thailand – LINE has redesigned how users find communities in LINE OpenChat, placing interest-based recommendations, trending topics and simplified discovery on the third tab of the LINE app.
Since the change, OpenChat’s monthly active users in Thailand have risen to 24 million from 20 million, according to LINE Thailand.
The new experience aims to make it easier for users to discover, join and engage with people who share similar passions. It also reflects the company’s wider focus on interest-based communities.
Nadhakriz Kanchanamantana, Head of LINE OpenChat, said, “We believe meaningful connections begin with shared interests. By bringing OpenChat to the third tab of the LINE app, we are making communities more accessible and helping users discover a place where they truly belong. Our ambition is to transform shared interests into lasting community connections.”
Alongside discovery, LINE has upgraded the in-community experience. The additions include AI-powered conversation summaries, discussion threads and fraud protection alerts, which the company says improve convenience, engagement and user safety.
Usage has grown in step with the redesign. As of 30 September 2026, LINE OpenChat recorded more than 2.25 billion monthly usage sessions, up from 1.8 billion.
LINE OpenChat is available in Japan, Thailand and Taiwan. It lets users connect beyond their existing social circles through communities spanning entertainment, education, careers, lifestyle and everyday conversations.
Beyond the app, LINE OpenChat is expanding initiatives that link online communities with real-world experiences. These involve partnerships with brands, entertainment companies and educational institutions.
Looking ahead, the service will build its community ecosystem around four strategic pillars. Discover aims to improve community accessibility, Activate encourages meaningful participation, Grow supports community creators, and Connect strengthens partnerships across industries.
Guided by its philosophy, “Where everyone has their own place,” the company said it aims to evolve beyond a messaging-based community service into an ecosystem that serves users, creators and brands.
