Singapore – Meta has named Dhruv Vohra as Managing Director, Global Business Group, Southeast Asia, as the company puts AI and business messaging at the centre of its regional commercial agenda.
He will lead commercial strategy across Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. He will report to Benjamin Joe, Vice President for Asia Pacific of Meta.
The appointment comes as commerce habits in the region move onto digital platforms, according to Meta. Shoppers discover products in feeds, close deals in chat threads and buy in bursts around mega sale events.
Joe framed the role around that shift, pointing to the pace at which customers now expect businesses to use AI and messaging.
“Southeast Asia is one of Meta’s fastest-growing business regions, and the work ahead is helping businesses leverage AI and messaging at the pace their customers already expect,” said Joe.
“Dhruv has spent seven years close to those businesses, and he has built the teams that support millions of them. He is the right person for this next phase,” Joe continued.
Vohra, in turn, described Southeast Asia as an early testing ground for the technologies now shaping business growth.
“Southeast Asia is one of the most dynamic and creative regions in the world. Trends such as business messaging and live shopping found early adopters here. No two markets here behave the same way, and the businesses growing fastest here have outgrown the borders they started in. AI has opened up even more possibilities. Working with our teams and partners to help more businesses innovate is a real privilege,” Vohra said.
His background lies in the commerce technology the region has adopted. He joined Meta in 2019 as Director for e-commerce and digital natives, working with the platforms that Meta says reshaped how the region shops.
He later led small and medium-sized business (SMB) growth in Southeast Asia, before widening that remit to run the SMB Group across all of Asia Pacific. The new role returns him to the region where he started.
Vohra also writes on the subject outside his corporate duties. His LinkedIn newsletter, Small to Scale: Inside APAC’s Innovative SMBs, chronicles how businesses have changed the way they sell.
He was also a key contributor to the SYNC Southeast Asia thought leadership series, which examines the digital consumer landscape and e-commerce trends across the region.
