Singapore – Simon-Kucher, a global consultancy specialising in commercial growth strategies, has appointed Charles Wong as senior partner to oversee its retail and digital banking work throughout the APAC region.
From his base in Singapore, Charles will guide the firm’s efforts to broaden its advisory services in areas such as commercial model development, digital expansion, customer experience improvement, pricing, and revenue strategies for financial institutions.
Charles has more than two decades of experience in regional banking, digital transformation, ecosystem-led financial services, and strategic marketing. He previously served as the founding chief executive of GXS Bank Singapore, where he managed the approval and rollout of the country’s full digital banking licence and developed the institution’s retail and ecosystem framework.
“I am thrilled to join Simon-Kucher at such a transformative moment for the industry, and I look forward to helping clients navigate their journeys and to advance Simon-Kucher’s mission of unlocking better growth for businesses and our customers,” Charles commented.
He added, “AI transformation, digitalisation, and ecosystem partnerships are redefining the future of banking. In a world of declining interest rates, banks and fintechs must focus on optimising profitability and deposits, while unlocking new opportunities through data monetisation.”
During his tenure at GXS, Charles also helped steer the bank’s early-stage digital operations and growth roadmap, reflecting his long-standing focus on using technology, data, and ecosystem partnerships to improve financial services for a broad range of consumers.
His earlier roles at Citi included leading the retail banking business in Singapore and managing regional initiatives focused on product development, wealth and deposit growth, and customer engagement across several APAC markets.
Jan Weiser, co-managing partner of APAC at Simon-Kucher, commented that the company is delighted to welcome Charles and is looking forward to his leadership across the region.
“His distinctive track record in building digital and retail banking propositions, driving profitable growth, and leading transformation across APAC will significantly strengthen our ability to help clients capture new opportunities in an evolving financial landscape,” Jan stated.
The appointment strengthens Simon-Kucher’s position in APAC’s expanding banking and fintech landscape, reflecting the firm’s efforts to support organisations seeking sustainable commercial growth in a sector undergoing ongoing digital and structural change.
