Tokyo, Japan – Kyndryl, Toyota Systems Corporation and Toyota Finance Corporation are working together to introduce agentic artificial intelligence (AI) into Toyota Finance’s IT service operations, with a focus on infrastructure design, change management and impact analysis.
The initiative will use Kyndryl’s Agentic AI Framework to develop AI-enabled workflows across Toyota Finance’s enterprise IT environment. Kyndryl and Toyota Systems are developing an IT change management solution that uses AI agents trained on customer-specific rules and operational knowledge, including IT environments, runbooks and operational schedules, to identify inconsistencies and potential risks.
“People are essential to sustainable growth. By enabling the skilled engineers of Toyota Systems and Kyndryl to use technologies such as agentic AI, we can create a virtuous cycle in which people are able to shift their focus toward taking on new challenges and creating greater value,” said Akira Umehara, Head of the IT Division at Toyota Finance.
“We aim to evolve digital technology into a force that creates the business itself,” Umehara continued.
The companies said the initiative will enable Toyota Finance to respond more quickly to changing business requirements while maintaining infrastructure service quality and adhering to corporate governance standards. The deployment is also intended to strengthen business continuity and improve engineering productivity.
“To help realise a sustainable mobility society, we have embarked on an initiative to transform our IT operations in ways that support this goal,” said Iwao Nakano, Commissioner and Head of the Finance IT Division at Toyota Systems.
“Going forward, we will work even more closely with Kyndryl to apply human-centred agentic AI across the entire IT lifecycle. In other words, this reflects the same philosophy as jidoka, or ‘automation with a human touch.’ By combining frontline expertise with digital technology, we will create value through continuous improvement,” Nakano continued.
The AI-enabled workflows are expected to improve efficiency and standardise the quality of review processes. In system change impact analysis, AI agents are intended to reduce decision-making time and the workload on engineers.
“Kyndryl’s infrastructure-first approach to deploying agentic AI enables us to support enterprise AI adoption at production scale, while balancing scalability and security across mission-critical systems,” said Yoshinori Irisawa, President of Kyndryl Japan.
“We will continue to work closely with our customers to help them deploy AI safely and effectively, while maintaining strong governance and operational resilience,” Irisawa continued.
Kyndryl, Toyota Systems and Toyota Finance plan to expand the use of agentic AI across the IT infrastructure lifecycle, with the aim of further transforming IT service processes.
