Singapore – Google Cloud on Tuesday, 15 September 2026, officially opened its Singapore Engineering Centre (SEC), positioning the facility as its flagship product development hub for Southeast Asia. The centre is co-located with Southeast Asia’s first Google DeepMind research lab, according to the company.
The SEC brings together engineers specialising in AI, AI infrastructure, data, compute, machine learning, core networking, storage and frontline support, Google Cloud said.
Its stated purpose is to translate frontier AI research into production-grade cloud and AI solutions tailored to Singapore-based enterprises expanding into global markets.
According to Google Cloud, the SEC departs from the conventional model of regional support outposts. Rather than functioning as a post-sales maintenance arm, the centre is designed to build products in Singapore for worldwide deployment, which the company says sets it apart from both pure-play AI labs and traditional hyperscaler support functions.
Google Cloud first flagged plans for the SEC at Google for Singapore in February 2026, a move it said deepens its commitment to building an AI-ready workforce and driving regional innovation. The initiative is supported by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB).
The SEC’s mandate spans three areas, per Google Cloud. The first is next-generation agentic cloud infrastructure, covering scalable and secure data engines built for low-latency, mission-critical enterprise and agentic workloads.
The second is the integration of frontier model and agentic platform breakthroughs into Google’s cloud solutions, optimised for both localised contexts and global export.
The third covers developer platforms and automation, including secure API frameworks, autonomous agent orchestration tooling, and open-source ecosystem contribution.
Beng Kong Pee, Executive Vice President at EDB, welcomed the development. “Singapore is proud to host Google Cloud’s first Engineering Centre in Southeast Asia. It will add depth and expertise to Singapore’s diverse AI and cloud ecosystems by accelerating AI application development and shaping products for global deployment,” said Pee.
“We welcome Google’s continued investment in the Singapore workforce with new core engineering and FDE roles presenting exciting opportunities for Singaporeans to build expertise with frontier technologies,” he added.
Google Cloud said the SEC is designed to establish a closed-loop development pipeline by uniting AI researchers and cloud systems architects within a shared engineering environment.
During product development, the company said its SEC engineers work directly alongside customers’ technical leads, aiming to tune platforms and AI systems around real-world business demands rather than leaving customers to do so after deployment.
Early engineering collaborations cited by Google Cloud include stress-testing real-time multilingual AI models with Grab, and developing core financial agentic workflows with DBS. The company said these Southeast Asian projects feed directly into its worldwide product roadmap.

Alongside the SEC launch, Google Cloud said it is expanding its regional Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) workforce. These engineers are tasked with taking products engineered at the SEC into sustained commercial production, working with customers to integrate and scale bespoke innovations from pilot to full deployment.
