Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – ZTE Corporation has expanded its long-standing collaboration with Multimedia University (MMU) in Malaysia through a new addendum, which focuses on strengthening public service capabilities in an era shaped by AI and cybersecurity.
The extended partnership provides MMU with ZTE’s AiCube platform and smart classroom technologies. The platform integrates advanced AI computing with interactive learning tools, enabling a more adaptive and immersive training environment.
These facilities will be shared between MMU students and participants of public sector programmes, establishing a joint ecosystem for learning, applied research and project-based development in AI and cybersecurity.
The two organisations have collaborated for several years to enhance Malaysia’s digital talent pool. Their work began with the creation of end-to-end 5G laboratories in Cyberjaya and Melaka, offering students and researchers an operational setting to examine emerging technologies. ZTE has also introduced scholarship initiatives to provide additional opportunities for capable students pursuing technology-related fields.
“We are honoured to support Malaysia’s public service and academic institutions as they build essential digital capabilities,” Gu Junying, senior vice president of ZTE, commented.
“Even as participants complete their programmes today, the journey of learning continues. Technology evolves quickly, and continuous development is vital to building a future-ready workforce.”
MMU has more recently been appointed as an authorised centre for both training and certification under ZTE’s professional development framework, covering areas such as next-generation networks, cybersecurity, wireless systems and AI. This has supported MMU’s position as a key technology training institution within the country.
ZTE has also contributed to MMU’s wider strategic programmes, including the NexGen Communication Engineering Hub launched in 2023. The initiative aims to cultivate technical proficiency, encourage innovation, strengthen research output and deepen collaboration with industry, aligning with Malaysia’s broader ambitions to prepare a digitally capable workforce.
“The deployment of the AiCube platform strengthens our ability to train industry-ready graduates and public service leaders, and supports Malaysia’s broader digital transformation agenda,” Professor Dato’ Dr Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, president of MMU, stated.
“This collaboration reinforces MMU’s role as a leading institution for technology-driven education, research, and talent development.”
Beyond the academic environment, the partnership has extended to public sector upskilling. In 2024, both organisations jointly delivered a programme aimed at strengthening digital competencies among government personnel.
ZTE Corporation has reiterated its commitment to supporting Malaysia’s technology and innovation landscape through ongoing investment in digital skills development, advanced learning systems and collaboration with both academic institutions and the government.
With the extended agreement now in place, ZTE and MMU aim to further strengthen national capabilities in AI, cybersecurity and next-generation connectivity, contributing to the country’s long-term digital progress.
