Manila, Philippines – Union Bank of the Philippines, one of the country’s major financial institutions, has adopted Amazon Web Services (AWS) Amazon Quick Suite to expand the use of data-led tools across its operations.
The bank is the first in the Philippines and among the earliest in Southeast Asia to apply the suite’s generative AI features, allowing staff in operational, technical, product and customer-facing teams to explore information through natural-language queries.
Union Bank’s focus on modernising its digital capabilities is aligned with its broader objective of building a more agile and customer-centred organisation. By strengthening the role of data and AI in day-to-day work, the banks aim to anticipate customer needs, deliver more intuitive financial services and support wider access to banking products.
“Data is the foundation of any successful AI transformation in banking, and AWS’s generative AI capabilities have enabled us to fundamentally transform how we approach data-driven decision making,” Dennis D. Omila, chief transformation officer at UnionBank, stated.
He added, “By empowering our business teams with direct access to analytics through natural language, we’re not just improving operational efficiency; we’re democratizing data insights that enable us to better serve our customers and stay ahead in financial services.”
Previously, many internal users depended on data specialists to produce reports, develop dashboards and extract insights, a process that often slowed responses to emerging trends.
The introduction of Amazon Quick Suite was designed to reduce these bottlenecks by allowing more than 200 business users to conduct their own analysis and visualisation work. This shift is expected to help teams make quicker, evidence-based decisions, such as investigating fluctuations in customer activity or identifying irregular patterns that may indicate fraud.
“AI adoption in the Philippines is growing at 50% year-on-year, and financial institutions are rapidly adopting generative and agentic AI to drive financial inclusion and create personalised services,” Precious Lim, country manager of AWS Philippines, commented.
She added, “With Amazon Quick Suite, UnionBank is improving internal efficiency while positioning itself to deliver easier access to financial services and better customer experiences to Filipino customers through data-driven insights.”
Through the platform, staff can create dashboards, tailor parameters and obtain real-time results without requiring advanced technical expertise. The bank anticipates significantly shorter turnaround times for data-related requests once the system reaches full deployment.
Early outcomes point to expanded access to analytics, with the bank reporting lower operating costs and improved efficiency in areas such as campaign execution and account management. UnionBank expects these gains to contribute to more competitive pricing and improved customer value.
