Singapore – Aiming to combat the growing threats of scams, cybersecurity firm Trend Micro has recently rolled out a multi-featured mobile app to assist consumers in identifying potential scams and AI threats like deepfakes.

The solution, named Trend Micro Check, enables consumers to submit various types of content, including but not limited to messages, ads, or social media posts. This move offers users the opportunity to quickly determine if it can be trusted and provides a feature to detect if a live video call is a deepfake.

Moreover, the tool further allows consumers to block scams, receive real-time alerts about them, and instantly verify if something is a scam, all before they can be deceived by it.

In particular, a prominent feature of the app is the scam check, an AI-powered tool providing real-time assessment of the likelihood that content is a scam. The tool also generates an easy-to-understand summary of the potential security concerns, along with recommended actions.

A deepfake scan feature is also available, enabling the app to identify potential AI “face-swapping” scam attempts during live video calls.

Another essential feature is the SMS filter, designed to automatically filter out spam and scam text messages before they enter the inbox. Lastly, the web guard function blocks harmful websites and filters out suspicious ads.

Tim Falinski, VP of consumer business for AMEA at Trend, said, “Scams are at the top of the list of online threats to consumers, and AI has made it easy for cybercriminals to scam innocent people. While they take advantage of new technology to cause harm, we do the opposite. We are leading the race against these threats and working tirelessly to stay ahead of them with our own AI capabilities.”

Jorij Abraham, managing director at the Global Anti-Scam Alliance, also stated, “With more than $1 trillion lost by consumers worldwide to scams last year, more must be done to protect them.”

“As our first Foundation Partner, Trend Micro is clearly committed to stopping this problem by delivering tools like the AI-powered capabilities in Trend Micro Check and by supporting and participating in the important work we do. We applaud Trend’s dedication to this cause and their technical leadership in using AI against the misuse of AI,” added Abraham.
