Tata Communications acquires 51% of Commotion Inc, expanding its AI capabilities

Mumbai, India – Tata Communications has taken a majority stake in Commotion Inc., securing 51% of the company as part of its strategy to deepen the use of AI across its global technology portfolio.

Commotion, which operates in India and the United States, develops enterprise software centred on AI-powered automation, voice technologies and digital agents.

The transaction supports Tata Communications’ plan to enhance the AI-driven features within its Digital Fabric, with particular emphasis on its customer engagement products, including those offered through Tata Communications Kaleyra.

“This acquisition marks a significant step in our journey to redefine customer experience in the AI era,” A. S. Lakshminarayanan, MD & CEO of Tata Communications, stated.

“With Commotion’s capabilities already integrated into Tata Communications Kaleyra, we are seeing phenomenal customer traction and expect this to accelerate our evolution into an AI-first organisation, making our Digital Fabric more intelligent, adaptive, and future-ready.”

Commotion’s orchestration engine is now incorporated into Kaleyra’s systems, such as its communication channels, interaction hub, and cloud contact platform, to support automated customer journeys and more predictive forms of engagement for both external users and internal teams.

“We are thrilled to announce this significant milestone in our journey. This isn’t just about capital. It’s about conviction, shared purpose, and the power of combining our innovation velocity with Tata Communications’ global reach and digital expertise,” Murali Swaminathan, CEO of Commotion Inc., shared.

“Together, we will unlock AI’s full potential in many industry sectors, building solutions that scale responsibly and transform the way the world works. The future isn’t just coming – it’s here, and it’s global.”

Commotion’s platform brings together voice-driven AI, an agent-building toolkit and tools for managing customer journeys across multiple channels. Its technology is designed to automate complex operational tasks, deliver tailored interactions at scale and support continuous enterprise functions through AI-enabled digital agents.

By integrating Commotion’s capabilities, Tata Communications aims to accelerate its own transition towards becoming an organisation in which AI underpins core processes. The acquisition aligns with the company’s ongoing efforts to assist enterprises in moving from initial AI trials to broader adoption of technologies that support large-scale operational change.
