Singapore – Smartstream has taken its AI-powered Air platform live at Rothera, a US derivatives exchange and clearinghouse regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), to automate the reconciliation of about 1.7 million daily transactions.
The data solutions provider said Rothera deployed Air’s Cash and Data modules as a new implementation. The system replaces manual processes with a fully automated and fully audited environment.
Smartstream describes Air as a platform that ingests, matches and reconciles high-volume data flows with minimal manual intervention. It says the environment aligns with the regulatory obligations of a CFTC-regulated venue.
Rothera, which Smartstream describes as a US-based event contract market, selected the platform as transaction volumes on its exchange grew. The company sought to scale its existing reconciliation processes while improving operational efficiency and audit controls.
The initial go-live covers two data reconciliations: Exchange-to-Clearing Instruments and Exchange-to-Clearing Trades. Smartstream said further reconciliation flows are planned as the rollout continues, although the announcement did not give a timeline.
According to Smartstream, Rothera now has substantially reduced manual effort, faster exception identification and a complete audit trail across its operations.
Robin Hasson, Head of Product, Smartstream, commented, “We’re delighted to support Rothera as it scales its post-trade operations with Air. Rothera is now able to efficiently manage around 1.7 million daily transactions while strengthening operational resilience and control. This go-live marks an important milestone, and we look forward to supporting Rothera as it expands its reconciliation capabilities in the future.”
Rothera’s leadership, in turn, tied the deployment to the growth of the exchange.
“As we grow Rothera’s markets, we’re investing in infrastructure that supports increased trading activity with reliable operations and robust controls,” said Joseph McGlawn, Chief Clearing Officer of Rothera.
“Smartstream’s Air enables us to automate high-volume reconciliations, identify exceptions quickly while maintaining a clear audit trail, and allow our team to focus on operational oversight. This foundation enables us to extend automation to additional workflows over time,” McGlawn concluded.
