Sydney, Australia – Cloudflare has launched Cloudflare Basin, a data platform designed to help developers and enterprises collect, store and analyse data without managing dedicated servers or paying data transfer fees between clouds.

Announced in Sydney on 2 October 2026, Basin is built on Apache Iceberg and Cloudflare R2. The platform provides an open, serverless environment for ingesting, storing, cataloguing and querying analytical data across compatible tools.

Cloudflare said traditional data analytics infrastructure can require dedicated data engineering teams, pre-provisioned servers and multiple systems for data collection and analysis. Data movement between cloud environments can also add to operating costs.

Basin stores data in Apache Iceberg, an open industry-standard format that can be accessed by compatible tools. Cloudflare said its data collection, organisation and analysis capabilities run on its network on demand, without requiring customers to provision or manage dedicated servers.

“Developers shouldn’t need to become data infrastructure operators just to answer questions from their own data,” said Dane Knecht, CTO at Cloudflare.

“With Cloudflare Basin, we are bringing the same serverless model that developers expect from Cloudflare to analytics: no clusters to manage, no unnecessary data movement, and open standards that keep customers in control of their data,” Knecht continued.

Open data storage and serverless infrastructure

Cloudflare said Basin allows customers to retain control of their data by storing it in Apache Iceberg. This enables teams to analyse the data using compatible tools without being tied to a single vendor.

The platform also removes the need for developers to provision and manage servers for data ingestion, storage and querying. Basin runs on Cloudflare’s global network, with the company stating that developers can perform these functions without dedicated infrastructure.

Another feature is the absence of data transfer fees when querying information using tools across different clouds, platforms or regions, according to Cloudflare.
