HDBank taps London Stock Exchange to broaden global funding routes for Vietnamese firms

Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam – Ho Chi Minh City Development Commercial Bank (HDBank) has formed a strategic alliance with the London Stock Exchange (LSE) to facilitate access for Vietnamese companies to international capital markets.

The initiative aligns with Vietnam’s economic objectives, including a target of 10% GDP growth, which is expected to rely on sustained investment in infrastructure, technological development, higher-value manufacturing and services, and environmentally focused industries. These ambitions are driving demand for long-term financing beyond traditional bank lending.

Vietnam has been advancing reforms to its capital markets, including measures that contributed to an anticipated upgrade in its equity market classification by FTSE Russell. Alongside this progress, authorities have emphasised the importance of attracting overseas investment, with the establishment of the Việt Nam International Finance Centre earlier in the year serving as a channel for foreign capital inflows.

“The cooperation with the LSE is not only aimed at raising capital, but also at supporting Vietnamese businesses in accessing global standards of governance, transparency, and sustainable development,” Kim Byoungho, Chairman of the Board of Directors of HDBank, stated.

“Through the London platform, HDBank expects to open a long-term connection channel between the Vietnamese market and international investors.”

Under the partnership, HDBank and the LSE will work to support cross-border fundraising through instruments such as equities and debt securities listed in London. The collaboration is also intended to strengthen links with institutional investors worldwide and promote improvements in corporate disclosure and governance practices among Vietnamese issuers.

HDBank, a major financial institution in Vietnam with operations spanning retail and corporate banking, securities, investment and insurance, is also a founding member of the Việt Nam International Finance Centre. Through this initiative, the bank aims to position itself as a key intermediary for domestic companies seeking funding from international markets.

“We appreciate HDBank’s role in fostering market connectivity and supporting businesses in accessing global capital opportunities,” Dame Julia Hoggett, Managing Director of the London Stock Exchange, shared.

“This partnership also reflects London’s commitment to supporting emerging markets in raising standards and integrating into the international financial system.”

In parallel with the agreement, HDBank and LSE have entered into additional cooperation arrangements with several Vietnamese corporations, including Hoa Sen Group, THACO and Phuc Sinh Corporation. These arrangements focus on structuring capital-raising activities, advising on potential listings, and facilitating engagement with global investors.
