Petaling Jaya, Malaysia – CelcomDigi has announced a collaboration with MyDigital Corporation (MyDigital), Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB), and Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya (MBPJ) to develop Malaysia’s first AI-powered traffic intelligence platform using neural networks and advanced analytics.

The initiative positions CelcomDigi as the first telecommunications provider in Malaysia to roll out large-scale traffic intelligence solutions in line with the country’s Digital Economy Blueprint and smart city agenda.

The project integrates CelcomDigi’s connectivity, 5G capabilities, and AI expertise with MBPJ’s urban management systems to address challenges such as congestion, long queues at intersections, road safety, and infrastructure planning.

“This initiative is a powerful example of how industry and government can come together to solve urban challenges by leveraging technology to deliver meaningful impacts for the nation,” Albern Murty, acting chief executive officer of CelcomDigi, commented.

He added, “This pilot in Petaling Jaya is a first step towards scaling intelligent traffic systems nationwide, building a digital ecosystem where AI and connectivity come together to create safer, smarter, and more efficient cities.”

The pilot will be conducted in several areas within the Damansara constituency in Petaling Jaya, including PJ Sentral, SS2, and locations along the Damansara–Puchong Expressway (LDP).

By combining real-time insights with council systems and data, the solution is designed to optimise traffic flows at intersections through AI-powered predictions, provide data-driven models for infrastructure development and city planning, and recommend diversions during peak hours, construction works, or emergencies to improve overall mobility.

Mohamad Zahri Samingon, mayor of Petaling Jaya, shared that the city is proud to be the first in Malaysia to pilot a cutting-edge traffic intelligence solution.

“Traffic congestion and urban mobility are long-standing challenges for our community, and this initiative gives us a new way to manage them effectively,” Mohamad stated.

“With the support of the government agencies and CelcomDigi, we are bringing smarter, data-driven infrastructure to PJ that will directly benefit our residents and set a model for other cities in Malaysia.”

The collaboration reflects Malaysia’s wider ambition to deploy AI, 5G, and neural networks in building intelligent infrastructure that enhances urban mobility and quality of life. It also supports the National Digital Network (JENDELA) initiative, reinforcing the role of connectivity and data in driving innovation.
