Singapore – Stripe, a financial infrastructure platform, has recently teamed up with a coffee chain in China to facilitate its global expansion in Singapore and Malaysia.
Under this initiative, Luckin Coffee utilised Stripe’s scalable infrastructure, technical support, and localisation capabilities to develop a strong cross-border payment system. Said move comes in response to the operational challenges associated with entering new markets, allowing the company to prioritise a simplified payments strategy from the start.
Stripe’s payment solutions, in particular, allow Luckin Coffee to complete its payment integration in just one month, ensuring a seamless user experience across Singapore and Malaysia and accelerating its international expansion.
With its single integration model, Stripe also reduced ongoing development costs while laying a strong foundation for scalable expansion into new markets, driving operational efficiency across the board.
Its localisation feature further enabled Luckin Coffee’s ability to support a full suite of local payment methods, including credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, GrabPay, PayNow, and FPX. Using the company’s Payment Elements system, the user’s preferred payment method is automatically displayed, and Link ensures a fast, one-click checkout for returning customers.
Additionally, the financial platform equipped Luckin Coffee with key insights into the local payment environment, consumer trends, and regulatory challenges in Singapore and Malaysia.
In fact, Stripe guided Luckin Coffee’s go-to-market strategy in both Singapore and Malaysia, helping the brand navigate and adhere to local regulatory frameworks from day one, facilitating a seamless entrance.
Zhang Jiangxiang, general manager at Luckin Coffee Singapore, stated, “Our global strategy is anchored in technology and innovation. We chose Stripe not just for its payment leadership but for a shared mindset around speed, scale, and seamless user experience. This partnership allows us to focus on delivering great coffee to more customers around the world.”
Sarita Singh, regional head and managing director, Southeast Asia, India, and Greater China, also commented, “We’re proud to support Luckin Coffee’s global expansion. Their growth reflects the power of combining product innovation with efficient operations. Stripe’s mission is to enable forward-looking businesses like Luckin to scale globally through modern, localised payments.”
