Jakarta, Indonesia – In a bid to expand its services, Shopee, an e-commerce platform, has recently unveiled its partnership with Alphabet’s online video sharing platform, YouTube.

This initiative marks their latest move towards an online shopping service in Indonesia, prompted by the fast-evolving and dynamic energy of the country’s e-commerce landscape.

As part of the agreement, users can now shop items they discover on YouTube through direct links to Shopee. Said service is also set to expand to Vietnam and Thailand in the coming weeks, with broader expansion plans.

With YouTube Shopping, the new service competes with TikTok, which has recently expanded its market footprint following its takeover of Indonesia’s leading e-commerce platform, Tokopedia.

Ajay Vidyasagar, director for Asia Pacific at YouTube, shared that the new service would eventually expand to include partners other than Shopee “in a phased, sequenced manner.”

YouTube shopping has already been launched in South Korea and the United States, according to the company’s executives.
