Shanghai, China – Global e-commerce leader Alibaba Group Holding has recently announced that it will now enable payment options via Tencent’s WeChat payment system on its Taobao and Tmall online marketplaces.

The initiative, which will begin on September 12, equips all merchants on both e-commerce platforms the ability to add WeChat’s popular payment service to their shopfronts.

It will also improve user convenience and flexibility, significantly creating new business opportunities for merchants. This includes helping them reach a wider audience, particularly in emerging markets or underdeveloped regions.

According to the e-commerce giant, both e-commerce platforms have already informed merchants regarding the draft plan to add WeChat Pat as a payment option. On the other hand, the exact timeline for its rollout is still finalised.

This new payment service will further work alongside Alipay, the primary payment method on Alibaba’s platforms, which has long been its partner.
