Australia – MongoDB, Inc. has appointed Alex Newman as Area Vice President for Australia and New Zealand, starting this week. The company announced the move in Sydney on 5 November 2026.
Newman, an experienced go-to-market executive based in Sydney, will lead MongoDB’s ANZ business. According to the company, he will work with customers to modernise applications and scale AI workloads in production on its intelligent data platform.
He brings more than 20 years of experience leading business and technical teams in the technology industry. Most recently, he was Regional Vice President at Salesforce.
Newman has also held senior roles at Informatica, EMC and Macquarie Telecom. He will report directly to Richard Scott, who was recently appointed Senior Vice President, Asia Pacific and Japan, of MongoDB.
Scott framed the appointment around customer demand for production-ready AI. “Every organisation I speak to wants the same thing: AI that works, scales in production, and delivers real business outcomes, on data they can trust,” said Scott.
“Alex brings deep enterprise data and AI experience to MongoDB, as well as a record of building teams and customer relationships across ANZ. That’s exactly what we need as local organisations move into the AI-in-production era, and his leadership will help us deliver it,” Scott added.
Newman takes charge of a regional customer base that, according to MongoDB, includes Heidi, Lendi Group, Pathfinder Labs, Woolworths Group, Bendigo Bank and New Aim. The company says Heidi’s AI scribe supports millions of patient interactions globally every week, while Pathfinder Labs’ AI platform helps law enforcement solve cases faster.
MongoDB also maintains a significant engineering presence in the region. The company says its Australian team has more than 70 engineers working on core architectural innovations, including its global storage engine.
Those engineers contributed to the recent launch of MongoDB Atlas Infinite, which MongoDB describes as the largest architectural innovation in MongoDB Atlas since its inception in 2016. The team has also built bespoke AI coding tools to help organisations worldwide modernise legacy data architecture, and its work reaches all of MongoDB’s more than 70,000 global customers, the company says.
Newman said his priorities centre on the regional team and its customers. “I’ve never been more optimistic about what organisations in this region will be able to do with AI and data,” said Newman.
“The data layer is where AI succeeds or fails, and I believe MongoDB’s intelligent data platform is positioned to be the standard for AI. I’m going to be focused on growing the talented team we already have in the region and delivering outstanding results for our customers,” Newman concluded.
