Singapore – MongoDB, Inc. (NASDAQ: MDB) has named Richard Scott as Senior Vice President for Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ), the database software firm confirmed on Tuesday. Based in Sydney, Scott takes charge of MongoDB’s regional strategy at a time when enterprises across the region are shifting artificial intelligence projects from pilot phase into full production.
Prior to the appointment, Scott spent time as Senior Vice President for APJ at Salesforce. He has additionally held senior leadership positions at Informatica, Microsoft, SAP and IBM, bringing more than 25 years of enterprise technology experience to his new post.
Furthermore, MongoDB’s intelligent data platform already counts several major regional players among its customers, including LGU+, Cathay Pacific, Samsung and Woolworths. Alongside these enterprise names, fast-growing and AI-native companies such as Heidi, Zomato, Canva, Grab and Emergent also rely on the platform.
MongoDB currently employs more than 1,200 people across APJ and serves thousands of customers throughout the region, reflecting the scale of its regional operations. In line with this growth, the company opened a new office in Kuala Lumpur in May, and it is set to open a Tokyo office this September, alongside increased investment in Japan over the coming months.
Meanwhile, MongoDB’s engineering teams in India and Australia continue to expand. In June, MongoDB for Academia also announced plans to upskill 2 million developers in India by 2030, equipping them with data and AI skills.
Under Scott’s remit, the focus will be on accelerating MongoDB’s growth and adoption across the APJ region. According to the company, its platform brings together real-time data, vector search, hybrid search and AI capabilities — including Voyage AI embeddings and reranking — within a single system, enabling enterprises and developers to speed up innovation, reduce complexity and improve accuracy in their AI applications.
Commenting on the appointment, MongoDB Chief Revenue Officer Ryan Mac Ban, said, “Richard joins at a pivotal moment. Our customers across the region—from Sydney to Seoul to Mumbai—are moving past experimenting with AI, and are looking to us to help them run AI in production.”
“His 25 years building enterprise businesses in Asia Pacific, combined with his strategic vision and customer-first mindset, gives him the experience and credibility to accelerate that transition”, he added.
For his part, Scott outlined his priorities in the role. “Solving the data layer is going to be the defining technology question for organisations in the AI era”, he said.
“MongoDB is already loved by developers and trusted by market leaders but we are still only at the beginning of a massive shift in how technology is built and used. My focus is to align our partners, community, and regional teams, to help customers modernise and deploy AI applications with speed and confidence”, he further elaborated.
