Singapore – Boomi has acquired Elementary Data, a data observability provider, to add data quality and reliability tools to the Boomi Enterprise Platform. Elementary is Boomi’s second acquisition, following Lunar.dev. Boomi describes itself as a data activation company for AI.
The deal brings observability, quality, governance and discovery capabilities into the platform, according to Boomi. The company says these tools are designed to help enterprises feed reliable data to their AI systems.
Elementary was founded in 2022 as an open-source project. The company launched Elementary Cloud in 2024, which added enterprise-grade features to its open-source foundation. Its code-first design made data observability part of the modern data workflow, Boomi says.
Boomi frames the acquisition around a growing reliance on AI agents for business decisions. It argues that data reliability, long treated as back-office housekeeping, now represents a single point of failure when agents act on stale, incorrect or ungoverned data.
Boomi points to a Forrester Consulting study it commissioned in July 2026 to illustrate the trust gap. In that study, 86% of leaders said their organisations had moved beyond AI agent pilots, but only 34% said they trust the actions their agentic systems take.
Organisations that deployed agents before they were ready reported an average of $2.1 million in added costs, the study found.
“AI is only as trustworthy as the data behind it,” said Steve Lucas, Chairman and CEO of Boomi. “With Elementary, adopted by more than 1,500 data teams, with a ~4,000-member community, and downloaded over a million times a month, we’re adding the observability, quality, and governance layer that ensures the data activating our customers’ AI and agents is reliable, explainable, and enterprise-ready.”
Boomi customers will gain several Elementary capabilities as a result. These include agent-driven pipeline monitoring that detects freshness, volume and quality anomalies before they reach downstream assets, and column-level lineage across ingestion, transformation, semantic layers, business intelligence and AI.
The package also covers a shared data catalogue with ownership, tags and health scores. In addition, it includes an MCP server that exposes data context and health to AI tools and agents, and AI agents that automate test creation, incident triage, governance and performance optimisation.
Elementary will sit alongside the platform’s Active Data Foundation, which Boomi says continuously moves, grounds and governs data. The foundation delivers that data, with context, to the applications, devices and agents that need it.
Boomi contrasts this approach with traditional data platforms that focus on data at rest. It says the Active Data Foundation instead keeps data in motion.
“We started Elementary on a simple conviction: data teams deserved the same reliability tooling that software engineering teams have relied on for years. AI made that conviction urgent,” said Maayan Salom, CEO and Co-Founder of Elementary.
“When agents act on your data at machine speed, trust in that data stops being a nice-to-have and becomes the foundation the whole enterprise stands on. Joining Boomi, with 30,000+ customers and 800+ partners, lets us make trusted data the default for the AI era, not the exception. We’re just getting started,” Salom concluded.
