United States – Avid and Google Cloud are expanding their strategic partnership with new browser-based video editing capabilities and AI-powered workflows aimed at helping media organisations streamline production and remote collaboration.

The expanded partnership introduces a browser-based version of Avid Media Composer alongside an upgraded Avid Content Core platform. The companies are integrating Google Cloud’s Gemini Enterprise and BigQuery with Avid’s post-production environment, alongside AI agents and Avid’s existing tools.

The developments come as media production teams face growing demand for content while managing administrative tasks such as footage tagging, timeline organisation and media discovery. Traditional professional editing workflows have also relied heavily on on-premises workstations, creating challenges for distributed production teams.

Research from Avid found that 79% of professional editors surveyed are already using AI in their workflows. Speech-to-text and transcription were the most common applications, cited by 60% of respondents.

The research also found that 87% of editors believe AI is most valuable when it helps them achieve their creative intentions more efficiently, while 76% said AI’s strongest benefit is freeing up more time for storytelling. Meanwhile, 63% said AI tools need to be more closely integrated into established workflows to be useful.

Under the expanded partnership, Media Composer is being made available through the Google Chrome browser, allowing editors to work on professional timelines within Avid Content Core.

Avid’s Ready to Edit capabilities also introduce agentic AI functions that allow editors to use natural language prompts for tasks such as synchronising media, transcribing and aligning dialogue, and organising project bins.

An embedded Gemini panel within Media Composer can also be used to generate B-roll, search for stock footage and automatically add metadata such as tags, logs and translations using existing Gemini accounts.

The companies are also integrating semantic search capabilities into Content Core. Google Cloud technologies analyse and enrich media as it is imported, generating transcripts and semantic descriptions that allow production teams to locate footage using natural language queries.

Another component, Content Core Insights, combines Gemini Enterprise and BigQuery to connect production data with information about content performance.

Newsrooms can use Content Core Planning and Rundown to coordinate assignments, resources and programme rundowns, while editors can search for relevant footage and bring it into timelines using natural language. Completed edits can then be synchronised with broadcast programming, with production information recorded as part of the workflow.

The system is also designed to give broadcast and studio executives access to data on areas such as staffing, resource use, production costs and content performance through natural language queries.

The expanded offering includes a hybrid cloud deployment option through Avid Content Core Site Engine. This connects customer Google Cloud environments with Content Core while allowing media processing, production intelligence and agentic workflows to be managed centrally, with compute resources and high-resolution assets remaining within the customer’s cloud environment.

“Customers are asking for intelligent tools that plug seamlessly into existing workflows and scale with their creativity,” said Wellford Dillard, Chief Executive Officer of Avid.

“Our expanded partnership with Google Cloud strengthens our ability to deliver secure, AI-driven innovation while keeping Avid open, interoperable, and adaptable. By bringing Media Composer to the browser and integrating Gemini Enterprise into Content Core, we are helping creative teams bypass administrative friction and focus on storytelling,” Dillard continued.

“Avid has always been a media technology pioneer, and this partnership solidifies its leadership in adopting advanced AI for film and television,” said Anil Jain, Global Managing Director of Strategic Industries at Google Cloud.

“By integrating Gemini Enterprise with Avid’s flagship tools, we are giving editors powerful agentic workflows and intelligent search to handle tedious production logistics. This collaboration ensures creators can stay in their creative flow and work securely from anywhere,” Jain continued.
