Philippines – Manila-listed PhilWeb Corporation (PSE: WEB) has elected Lance Y. Gokongwei as Chairman of its Board of Directors, completing a governance overhaul that follows his ₱2.02 billion strategic equity investment in the firm.

Gokongwei, a prominent Philippine business leader, joined PhilWeb’s board in July before taking up the top governance post this week.

The appointment closes out a period of cross-border capital formation for PhilWeb and shifts the company’s focus towards executing its commercial B2B, AI-enabled technology roadmap at scale.

“This transition marks a critical inflection point for our capitalisation and operational scale”, said Chairman Lance Y. Gokongwei. “Our objective is clear: to deploy institutional-grade, AI-powered infrastructure that establishes a new operational standard for security and compliance across the regulated digital ecosystem.”

With Gokongwei now overseeing strategy, PhilWeb is moving to accelerate rollout of its enterprise artificial intelligence layer.

The company positions this as the final step in its transition into an institutional-grade digital infrastructure provider, one capable of supporting complex industrial integrations.

At the centre of this push is a set of high-value backend capabilities, including real-time operational monitoring, algorithmic risk management, regulatory compliance automation, anti-fraud detection, and data-driven customer lifecycle optimisation.

PhilWeb President Brian Ng framed the leadership change as central to the company’s next growth phase.

“Having Lance Gokongwei step into the Chairman role provides the institutional governance required for our next phase of scale”, Ng said. “His strategic oversight ensures that our AI infrastructure rollout—specifically engineered to serve the complex backend needs of premium commercial tourism complexes and multinational platform providers—is executed with absolute capital market discipline.”

Beyond governance, the move is intended to reinforce PhilWeb’s role as an operational backbone within the regulated digital technology sector.

The company’s AI-driven technology already connects a number of Southeast Asia’s commercial and cultural tourism conglomerates with multinational digital platforms and licensed institutional partners.

PhilWeb said it continues to bring global digital content and R&D institutions into its infrastructure, a strategy it describes as building deeper commercial moats within the B2B market.
