Manila, Philippines — GoTyme Bank has launched Apple Pay for its customers in the Philippines, with global issuer processor Paymentology supporting the rollout.
The launch enables GoTyme Bank customers to add their debit cards to Apple Wallet and use Apple Pay for contactless payments in stores, within apps and online where the service is accepted.
The move makes GoTyme Bank one of the first issuers in the Philippines to enable Apple Pay, as digital payments continue to gain traction among Filipino consumers. The bank currently serves 10 million customers.
Apple Pay uses tokenisation technology, with card numbers not stored on devices or shared with merchants. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned to each card, while transactions are authenticated through Face ID, Touch ID or a device passcode.
Nate Clark, President and CEO at GoTyme Bank, said, “At GoTyme Bank, we’re constantly looking for ways to make banking simpler, safer, and more rewarding for our customers. Bringing Apple Pay to GoTyme Bank customers in the Philippines gives them an easy and secure way to pay wherever they shop while continuing to earn rewards points on all their transactions. This is another step in our commitment to making everyday banking more beautiful and convenient for our customers.”
The rollout comes as digital payments account for more than half of retail payment transactions in the Philippines, according to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). Growing adoption of mobile banking and contactless payments has also increased demand for digital payment and wallet services.
For Paymentology, the launch forms part of its ongoing partnership with GoTyme Bank and highlights the role of cloud-native issuer processing in supporting the introduction of new payment capabilities.
Minh-Ha Truong, Head of Growth, APAC at Paymentology, said: “As a long-standing partner to GoTyme, we’re proud to support another significant milestone in its growth journey.”
“Bringing Apple Pay to market demonstrates how modern, cloud-native issuer processing enables digital banks to rapidly deliver innovative payment experiences while maintaining the highest standards of security, scalability and performance. Together, we’re helping shape the future of digital payments in the Philippines,” she continued.
The Apple Pay rollout adds another digital payment option for GoTyme Bank customers as the Philippine financial services market continues to shift towards mobile-first and contactless payment experiences.
