Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Global cloud communications platform Infobip has released new research indicating that businesses across Asia Pacific are increasingly adopting AI-powered security measures as fraudsters use artificial intelligence to automate and scale cyberattacks.
The company found a 77% year-on-year increase in detected AI-powered fraud threats. In response, the adoption of AI-powered fraud detection by businesses grew 71% over the same period, while pattern-based detection increased by 105%, reflecting a broader shift toward adaptive security systems.
Matija Ražem, Chief Commercial Telecom Officer at Infobip, said, “Fraudsters are using AI to automate and scale campaigns faster than ever, but AI-powered protection is evolving just as fast. The significant growth in AI-driven detection proves that leading organisations are no longer treating security as an afterthought, they are building it directly into their communication infrastructure.”
According to the report, Asia Pacific presents a mixed fraud landscape. At the telecommunications network level, the region is among the most technologically advanced, with highly automated operator firewalls and AI-powered detection models capable of identifying and blocking many threats without human intervention.
However, Infobip said one-time password (OTP)-based fraud continues to pose challenges at the enterprise level in several markets. Some territories continue to experience elevated rates of suspicious authentication activity, suggesting ongoing structural fraud patterns rather than isolated attacks.
The report also notes that regulators across the region are increasing their focus on authentication security. Countries including the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, and India have introduced stronger authentication requirements as concerns over SMS OTP vulnerabilities grow, making the issue both a security and compliance priority.
Infobip highlighted enterprise efforts to strengthen fraud prevention in the region. It cited the deployment of its SMS and Voice Firewall by PLDT Enterprise across Smart’s network, which the company said blocked more than 1.3 billion spam, smishing, and fraudulent SMS attempts while improving SMS delivery and overall network security.
