FEU Tech partners with OpenAI to expand AI integration across university operations, learning

Manila, Philippines – Far Eastern University Institute of Technology (FEU Tech) has announced a collaboration with OpenAI aimed at expanding the use of artificial intelligence across its academic and administrative operations, as the institution seeks to position itself among the early adopters of AI in Philippine higher education.

Under the collaboration, FEU Tech will deploy OpenAI’s enterprise-focused tools, including ChatGPT Edu and Codex, across the university. The initiative will provide more than 14,000 students, faculty members, and staff with access to AI technologies intended to support teaching, learning, research, student services, institutional operations, and workforce readiness.

According to the university, the effort forms part of a broader strategy to integrate AI into educational delivery, campus operations, and student support systems.

“AI is no longer an optional skill for students or faculty. The opportunity here is leadership,” said FEU Tech Senior Executive Director Benson Tan. “We are not reacting to AI. We are defining how AI is used responsibly in Philippine higher education. By working closely with OpenAI, this collaboration allows us to provide institution-wide access to ChatGPT Edu, a secure, managed version designed for universities. That means students, faculty, leadership, and staff can use it responsibly within guardrails aligned to our policies.”

FEU Tech said the collaboration builds on its focus on technology-driven education and will support efforts to integrate AI throughout the student lifecycle, including onboarding, classroom instruction, academic advising, campus engagement, career development, internships, graduation, and continuing learning.

The university plans to introduce AI-enabled tools and initiatives across its engineering, computing, and multimedia programs. These include an AI Tutor based on faculty-developed course materials, an AI Classroom designed to support interactive instruction, an AI Skills Assessment platform, and AI-assisted student success tools intended to help identify academic challenges earlier.

Students will be able to access AI tools within educational environments governed by institutional policies, faculty oversight, and data protection measures, according to the university.

Beyond academic use cases, FEU Tech said it intends to deploy AI agents across administrative functions such as curriculum development, admissions, enrollment, records management, human resources, analytics, and collaboration workflows. The university said these tools are expected to automate routine processes and support decision-making while allowing faculty and staff to focus more on teaching, mentoring, and student engagement.

OpenAI Managing Director Oliver Jay said the initiative reflects a broad approach to AI adoption within higher education.

“FEU Tech is taking an ambitious and forward-looking step by embedding AI across learning, campus operations, and student outcomes,” said Jay. “Education plays a critical role in closing that gap and preparing people for the jobs and opportunities ahead.”

As part of the collaboration, students will also be able to participate in workshops, training programs, hackathons, and other activities organised with OpenAI, providing exposure to AI-related skills, development practices, and career opportunities.

The university said the initiative is intended to help prepare graduates for a workforce increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.
