Singapore – CTM is working with Huawei to protect data transmission in critical industries from the cybersecurity risks of quantum computing.
According to CTM, quantum computing poses emerging threats to traditional frameworks. The Macao operator says the risk is prompting a rethink of how networks secure data.
In response, CTM and Huawei have pioneered a joint innovation: a target IP architecture featuring QKD-communication integration. CTM says it lets carriers proactively advance quantum-safe technology validation and network planning.
The operator expects the architecture to deliver next-generation security for data transmission in critical industries. It adds that an innovative built-in QKD solution significantly reduces O&M costs.
The partnership reflects CTM’s view that network security must go beyond a firewall at the network edge. The company says security should instead be a built-in capability of the network itself.
On that basis, CTM has identified two further areas for modernisation. The first is built-in device security, where AI-powered behaviour analytics allow devices to identify abnormal behaviour in real time and move defence from signature- and rule-based methods towards behaviour-based detection.
The second is security capabilities as a service. By pooling functions such as DDoS defence, IPS and anti-phishing, carriers can provision network security services within days, which removes manual on-site deployment and lets government and enterprise customers subscribe on demand.
These security plans sit within a wider network strategy. CTM has outlined an “intelligent, deterministic, and secure” infrastructure, driven by the high-reliability and low-latency demands of AI.
To support it, CTM is introducing AGW and AI broadband network gateway (BNG) capabilities, which it says steer traffic to optimal paths to improve user experience and cut international bandwidth costs. It will then integrate telemetry with AI-powered analytics in AGW 2.0 to move from manual to AI-driven optimisation.
CTM says the roadmaps aim to strengthen Macao’s network competitiveness. It also presents them as a reference for global carriers moving to intelligent, secure networks in the AI era.
