Singapore – Nike has confirmed that it is examining a possible cybersecurity incident after a group associated with ransomware activity claimed to have released a large volume of information linked to the company’s operations.
The sportswear manufacturer is assessing the situation as part of an ongoing investigation into the reported breach, with a focus on protecting consumer information and maintaining data security. No further details have been disclosed regarding the nature or scope of the incident.
The ransomware group, which operates under the name World Leaks, stated that it had made public approximately 1.4 terabytes of data allegedly taken from Nike. The authenticity of the material could not be independently verified, and the data was not immediately accessible for review. Attempts to establish direct contact with those behind the claim were unsuccessful.
Nike has not provided additional information on whether discussions took place with the attackers or if any financial demands were involved. It also remains unclear whether information belonging to the company’s wholesale partners may have been affected.
The reported incident comes as Nike works to strengthen its position in the global sportswear market following increased competition from smaller brands. The company’s shares showed little movement during the trading session following the report.
Cybersecurity breaches have continued to pose significant operational and financial risks for large organisations in recent years.
Further updates are expected once Nike provides an official statement following the current investigation.
