Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam – Vietnam Airlines has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Visa and Amazon Web Services (AWS) covering payments, travel, technology and data, the airline announced on 24 September 2026.

The agreements were exchanged in New York during the US visit of Vietnamese Communist Party General Secretary and President To Lam, who was accompanied by a high-level delegation. Le Truong Giang, a member of Vietnam Airlines’ Board of Directors, and Robert B. Thomson, Senior Vice President and Global Head of Government Affairs at Visa Inc., exchanged the MoU between the two companies.

According to the airline, both agreements aim to link services across the passenger journey, including booking, payment, rewards, airport and inflight services, and experiences at destinations. They form part of the carrier’s efforts to integrate aviation with financial services, tourism, data and artificial intelligence.

“Passengers today expect a seamless experience that extends well beyond the flight itself,” said Le Truong Giang, Member of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Airlines.

“Our partnerships with Visa and AWS bring together expertise in payments, technology and data, enabling Vietnam Airlines to develop more connected and personalised services while strengthening operational capabilities. These partnerships are an important step in our broader digital transformation and our ambition to deliver greater value to our customers,” Giang continued.

Visa agreement targets Lotusmiles expansion

Under the Visa MoU, Vietnam Airlines will explore turning its Lotusmiles frequent-flyer programme into a wider loyalty platform covering travel, lifestyle and a larger network of partners.

The plans include co-branded cards for domestic and international markets. These would offer Lotusmiles members and frequent flyers benefits across airport services and lounges, priority check-in, dining, accommodation, shopping and travel.

The companies will also look at digital payment solutions for commercial activities, agency networks and supply-chain operations, and will support the promotion of Vietnam and key air routes in strategic markets.

“Visa looks forward to working with Vietnam Airlines to explore payment and service solutions that respond to the increasingly diverse needs of today’s customers,” said Dang Tuyet Dung, Visa Country Manager for Vietnam and Laos.

“This collaboration also creates opportunities to bring together the strengths of aviation, payments and tourism in Vietnam and international markets,” Dung continued.

AWS deal covers AI, cloud and inflight connectivity

The MoU with AWS covers artificial intelligence, digital transformation and inflight connectivity as the airline seeks to become a digital carrier.

The two companies will explore AI and generative AI applications in passenger services, commercial activities, flight operations, aircraft maintenance, corporate management and data analytics, as well as ways to improve operational efficiency and decision-making.

The digital transformation work will centre on cloud computing, enterprise data platforms, IT modernisation and cybersecurity, alongside in-flight connectivity and digital cabin services. The companies will also explore digital tools to support flight crews and operations in the air and on the ground.

“Our collaboration with Vietnam Airlines aims to accelerate digital transformation, personalise the passenger experience, and enhance service excellence, supporting the airline’s ambition to become a 5-star carrier,” said Tedd Evers, Global Partner Leader, Travel and Hospitality at AWS.

“AWS will bring its capabilities in cloud computing, advanced artificial intelligence, and data analytics, together with extensive experience working with leading airlines worldwide, to support Vietnam Airlines across three key dimensions: people, culture, and technology,” Evers continued.

Vietnam Airlines said the agreements support its strategy of building international partnerships and expanding its digital capabilities and customer offerings. As Vietnam’s national flag carrier, it says it is moving beyond traditional air transport towards an ecosystem that links the ground, the air and destinations, with closer ties to tourism, finance, data and technology.
