U Mobile, MRCA collaborate to support digitalisation in Malaysia’s retail sector

Malaysia — Malaysia’s retail sector is set to benefit from a new collaboration between U Mobile and the Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA), which aims to accelerate digital transformation initiatives through the use of 5G technologies.

The initiative will give MRCA’s network of retail brands and outlets access to U Mobile’s 5G capabilities, supporting solutions such as cashless payment systems and smart inventory management. This is intended to enhance efficiency, improve customer experience, and strengthen competitiveness across the sector.

“We look forward to over 600 retail brands and 40,000 outlets benefitting from our ULTRA5G experience that will enable smart retail solutions such as cashless payment systems and smart inventory management,” Alex Tan, U Mobile’s chief sales officer said.

As part of its wider 5G network expansion, U Mobile recently launched its ULTRA5G experience at Berjaya Times Square making the mall to be the first fully 5G-enabled shopping mall in Malaysia.

The collaboration was formalised during the opening ceremony of Franchise Expo Malaysia 2025, with U Mobile represented by Chief Sales Officer Alex Tan and MRCA by President Datuk Dr. Ken Phua.
