Tata Communications acquires 51% of Commotion Inc, expanding its AI capabilities

Mumbai, India – Tata Communications has announced the appointment of Ganesh Lakshminarayanan as managing director and chief executive officer designate, subject to the completion of required regulatory approvals.

The appointment forms part of the company’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its digital transformation agenda, accelerate growth, and enhance operational effectiveness across its global operations.

Ganesh’s appointment intends to ensure leadership continuity as Tata Communications advances its focus on digital infrastructure, cloud, network and platform-led services. Following regulatory clearance, he is expected to assume the role effective April 2026, succeeding A. S. Lakshminarayanan, who is scheduled to retire at that time.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve an institution with such a strong legacy,” Ganesh commented.

He added, “Together with our leadership teams, I look forward to further building on our customer-centric culture, investing in our people, and executing our strategy with continued focus and discipline.”

Ganesh brings over 30 years of international leadership experience, spanning multinational corporations, business-to-business technology firms, and Indian enterprises. His career has focused on scaling digital businesses, expanding enterprise customer portfolios, and improving operational performance in competitive markets.

Most recently, he served as managing director and group vice president for ServiceNow in India and the SAARC region, where he was responsible for expanding market presence and supporting enterprise adoption of digital workflows.

Prior to this role, he led Airtel Business in India and earlier headed Airtel’s enterprise business unit. His experience in managing large enterprise relationships, technology-led services, and complex transformation programmes is expected to support Tata Communications’ strategic priorities.

“Ganesh’s experience with global businesses, automation, AI, digital transformation, enterprise relationships and large deals will complement Tata Communications’ strategies to the growth momentum demonstrated by the company,” N. G. Subramaniam, chairman of Tata Communications, stated.

Lakshminarayanan holds a Master of Business Administration with high distinction from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business and a bachelor’s degree in computer science and engineering from Guindy Engineering College in Chennai. He has also contributed to industry bodies through roles on the NASSCOM executive council and the FICCI council, and is a founding member of Social Venture Partners Bengaluru.

This leadership transition reflects Tata Communications’ broader strategy to reinforce execution discipline, strengthen digital capabilities and support long-term value creation for customers and stakeholders across global markets.
