Microsoft appoints Ali Farhadi as corporate vice president to strengthen AI efforts

Singapore – Microsoft has named Ali Farhadi as a corporate vice president, marking a further expansion of its AI capabilities, according to Business Insider. Ali, formerly chief executive of the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence, is set to report to Mustafa Suleyman, who leads a newly established in-house AI division within the company.

Ali recently stepped down from his role at the research institute, where he had overseen initiatives to advance accessible and open AI research.

His professional background also includes co-founding Xnor.ai, a company specialising in edge-based machine learning technologies that was later acquired by Apple.

Ali’s appointment follows broader organisational developments under Mustafa, who established a dedicated team focused on developing advanced AI systems using proprietary data and computing infrastructure.

Recent internal changes have also placed increased emphasis on long-term AI development, with leadership directing resources towards building advanced models over the coming years. The addition of Ali is understood to support these efforts as Microsoft continues to invest in expanding its AI research and development capabilities.
