Indosat extends CEO Vikram Sinha's tenure, reaffirms AI-led growth strategy

Indonesia – Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (Indosat) has announced plans to extend the tenure of President Director and Chief Executive Officer Vikram Sinha for another five years, subject to formal approval at the company’s upcoming Annual General Meeting of Shareholders (AGMS).

The company said the decision reflects the Board of Commissioners’ confidence in Sinha’s leadership as Indosat continues its long-term business transformation and advances its AI North Star strategy.

According to Indosat, the board’s decision follows the company’s progress since its 2022 merger, which it said has strengthened its position as a telecommunications and digital services provider. The company said the next phase of its strategy will focus on expanding artificial intelligence capabilities, deepening customer engagement, supporting Indonesia’s sovereign AI ecosystem, and creating long-term value for customers, shareholders, and the broader economy.

The Board of Commissioners also endorsed Indosat’s goal of doubling its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA), signalling confidence in the company’s long-term strategic direction.

Nezar Patria, President Commissioner of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, said, “Indosat has proven that a clear vision, disciplined execution, and consistent leadership compound over time. As the Company enters its next chapter, scaling sovereign AI and pursuing our EBITDA ambition, the Board of Commissioners continues to express its confidence in Vikram Sinha’s leadership. The Board of Commissioners’ approval to extend his tenure as President Director and Chief Executive Officer for the next five years reflects our confidence in his leadership and the management team’s ability to continue creating long-term value for Indonesia.”

Indosat said artificial intelligence is now integrated into various aspects of its operations, including network management, productivity improvements, capital efficiency, and customer experience. The company added that AI-powered hyper-personalisation is being used to deliver more tailored customer interactions.

Beyond telecommunications services, Indosat said it is expanding its business as an AI-focused technology company through investments in sovereign AI, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and enterprise digitalisation. These efforts include initiatives such as Sahabat-AI, NeoCloud, GPU cloud services, and collaborations with technology companies including NVIDIA.

The company also said it is developing a distributed AI Grid by leveraging its nationwide telecommunications network and data centre infrastructure to provide AI computing resources to developers, enterprises, public institutions, and local communities.

Indosat highlighted several AI initiatives already in operation, including Sahabat-AI, an open platform designed to improve the accessibility of artificial intelligence through Indonesian language and cultural capabilities. The company also said its AI-powered Anti-Spam and Scam feature can detect fraud indicators across SMS and voice services with more than 90% accuracy.

In addition, Indosat said it is working with public and private sector partners to expand access to AI technologies, digital skills development, and entrepreneurship programmes as part of efforts to support Indonesia’s digital workforce.

The company said it will continue pursuing its AI North Star strategy as it expands AI adoption across its operations and digital services portfolio.
