Jakarta, Indonesia – Garuda Indonesia is modernising its core enterprise systems through the RISE with SAP program as part of its broader digital transformation efforts, according to an announcement from SAP on May 26.
The airline said the initiative is intended to help integrate fragmented systems, improve competitiveness, and support its operational and customer service goals as it responds to changing market conditions and evolving passenger expectations.
“This collaboration with SAP forms a key part of our effort to strengthen business processes through digital transformation,” said Thomas Oentoro, Deputy CEO, Garuda Indonesia. “By modernising our enterprise core, we are building a more connected, agile, and disciplined organisation, better equipped to manage costs and respond to a dynamic operating environment.”
Under the project, Garuda Indonesia will integrate processes across finance, procurement, supply chain, and selected customer-related operations using SAP Cloud ERP Private through the RISE with SAP framework. The company said the move is expected to streamline back-office functions such as record-to-report workflows while improving operational visibility through analytics and automation capabilities.
The transformation will also introduce SAP Fiori-based user experiences designed to provide role-based access and simplified workflows for employees. The system will be deployed in a private managed cloud environment aimed at improving scalability, resilience, and IT efficiency while reducing system complexity.
“As airlines navigate growing operational complexity and rising customer expectations, a modern digital core is essential,” said Sianto Wongjoyo, Managing Director, SAP Indonesia. “By adopting SAP Cloud ERP Private through the RISE with SAP journey, Garuda Indonesia is building a strong foundation to streamline operations and enhance transparency. This positions the airline to advance toward a more autonomous enterprise, where AI-driven automation can support more efficient, adaptive operations and which may help the business respond to changing demand and market conditions.”
The airline added that the transformation is also expected to support efforts to improve maintenance and asset management as it works to restore fleet readiness and expand operational capacity.
