Petaling Jaya, Malaysia – Gamuda Berhad, a Malaysia-based engineering, property, and infrastructure firm, has recently announced the introduction of an AI-based training academy in collaboration with Google Cloud.

Through the initiative, the country anticipates Google’s US$2b (RM8.55b) data centre and cloud region facility to generate over US$3.2b (RM13.69b) in economic impact and create 26,500 jobs by 2030. This move further intends to foster the next generation of artificial intelligence talents for the country with the assistance of Google Cloud’s cutting-edge products.

As an AI-driven initiative, the program features a three-month curriculum that covers full-stack AI development, focusing on front-end, back-end, and AI technologies.

It also offers hands-on experience through lectures, labs, Google Cloud Skills Boost, and a capstone project and is open to students, graduates, industry professionals, and start-up founders.

Participants can further enhance their training by opting for a three-month internship at Gamuda or one of its partner organisations.

In a recently concluded launch event, Gobind Singh Deo, digital minister at Malaysian Government, said, “The series of investments by Google and other tech giants in recent months underscores Malaysia’s attractiveness as a premier destination to global investors.”

He further continued, “Malaysia’s digital economy is expected to contribute 25.5%, if not more, to the country’s GDP by the end of 2025. This includes establishing a skilled workforce to satisfy the growing demands of the tech industry.”

“Equipping our youths with the right skills, especially in this digital era, is something our Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is very concerned about, as he has repeatedly called for more AI-related lessons and TVET training in schools and other learning institutions,” added Gobind.

Serene Sia, director at Google Cloud Singapore and Malaysia, also commented, “This academy represents their continued efforts to make a positive impact in Malaysia, for Malaysians. We at Google Cloud are proud to be your partner, providing the same expertise and resources we use to train our own AI experts, to make this academy a success.”
