Malaysia – Cohesity, an AI-powered data security firm, has recently unveiled new enhancements to its Cohesity NetBackup 11.0, designed to strengthen organisations’ defences against current and future cyber threats.
According to the firm, these new features are now available globally, with key benefits such as quantum-proof encryption that provides protection against “harvest now, decrypt later” quantum computing attacks.
It further protects long-term confidentiality across all major communication paths within NetBackup, from encrypted data in transit and server-side dedupe to client-side dedupe and more.
These updates also introduce enhanced user behaviour monitoring, enabling the detection of a wider range of unusual activities. This advanced capability can mitigate or delay attacks, even if cybercriminals gain access to administrative credentials with malicious intent.
Another significant advantage is improved risk scoring, which strengthens the security posture of your data by automatically provisioning recommended values for more security settings. Malicious configuration changes are intercepted in real time with multi-factor authentication, preventing potential threats.
Additionally, the new version brings expanded cloud support that enhances protection for more cloud workloads while optimising efficiency with reduced backup windows.
NetBackup now extends PaaS workload coverage to include Yugabyte, Amazon DocumentDB, Amazon Neptune, Azure Cosmos DB (Cassandra and Table API), Amazon RDS Custom for SQL Server, Oracle Snapshots, and Azure DevOps/GitHub/GitLab.
With version 11.0, NetBackup further allows image replication and disaster recovery from cloud archive tiers such as Amazon S3 Glacier and Azure Archive.
Vasu Murthy, senior vice president and chief product officer, Cohesity, said, “This represents the most powerful NetBackup software release to date for defending against today’s sophisticated threats and preparing for those to come. Securing a modern data estate can be increasingly challenging for organisations, especially as cybercriminals evolve their attack methods.”
“Defence strategies must also evolve. The latest NetBackup features give customers smarter ways to minimise the impact of attacks now and post-quantum,” he further added.
Lim Hsin Yin, vice president of sales of ASEAN at Cohesity, also commented, “Ransomware and other cyber-attacks are the greatest risk organisations face right now. Across the ASEAN region, organisations recognise the need to deploy advanced data security and data protection capabilities to enhance cyber resilience.”
“With the rise of quantum computing, traditional cybersecurity and backup strategies aren’t enough. It is more important than ever for organisations to leverage data insights to ensure right decisions are made to detect risky user behaviour or threats early,” he also said.
NetBackup has earned Sheltered Harbour’s endorsement for adhering to the most stringent cybersecurity standards set for U.S. financial institutions and global businesses.
The recent updates highlight the company’s continuous investment in NetBackup, offering advanced security measures such as quantum-proof encryption, AI-driven analytics for spotting risky user activities, and enhanced PaaS workload support.
