Manila, Philippines – BPI Direct BanKo, the microfinance bank under the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), has chosen ACI Worldwide to support a major upgrade of its payments infrastructure.
The initiative involves the adoption of ACI’s issuing and acquiring technology, designed to help banks, fintech firms, and merchants manage transactions more efficiently while meeting regulatory requirements.
The platform enables real-time processing across a range of channels, including automated teller machines, point-of-sale systems and mobile services. It has been built with a modular framework that allows institutions to expand services rapidly and integrate new functions as needed. Its open design and security features are intended to support lower operational costs, faster product development and more consistent user experiences.
“By advancing digital payment solutions with our customers and communities in mind, we aim to make financial services more accessible and empowering for Filipinos nationwide,” Rod Mabiasen, president of BanKo, stated.
He added, “This partnership with ACI is crucial in building a reliable, future-ready payments system. Our switching network is one of the most important touchpoints for our customers.”
By introducing this technology, BanKo aims to replace its current switching system and strengthen its operational capabilities as transaction volumes grow. The upgrade is intended to support the organisation’s wider digital programme by improving service reliability and speed.
“With BanKo’s adoption, we’re bringing proven global technology to the Philippines that translates to greater reliability, convenience, and choice in every transaction for Filipino consumers,” Leslie Choo, senior vice president and managing director – APAC at ACI Worldwide, commented.
“ACI is fully aligned with BanKo’s vision of fostering financial empowerment and together, we are strengthening the foundation for a more inclusive and innovative payment ecosystem in the Philippines.”
The system is scheduled for implementation by the end of the first quarter of 2026 and is expected to play a key role in improving payment services for customers across the Philippines.
