Bangkok, Thailand – In an effort to improve medical research and diagnosis, the Faculty of Medicine – Sirraj Hospital at Mahidol University has recently announced the implementation of artificial intelligence in several of its key areas. This initiative is designed to enhance accuracy in detecting abnormalities, diagnosing diseases, and optimising the workflow of medical personnel.
With the integration, the institution has observed an improvement in the pathology department, with the automated detection of centroblast cells.
It has also successfully integrated AI into radiology, which has assisted them in analysing chest X-rays since 2019. This move enabled the detection of lung abnormalities and coronary arterial calcification.
Furthermore, AI has brought significant advantages to ophthalmology in screening patients for diabetic retinopathy.
Additionally, the AI research extends beyond the said medical specialities, which further include internal medicine, neurology, orthopaedics, mental health, and community healthcare. Notable applications further encompass AI-assisted voice and face recognition for mental health assessment and the CHIVID app for COVID-19 symptom screening.
By the end of 2024, the institution plans to expand its AI capabilities to include mammograms and CT brain analysis.
