Workato opens AI lab in Singapore to advance applied innovation

Singapore – Workato has opened its new AI lab in Singapore as part of its efforts to strengthen applied AI innovation and develop local talent through closer collaboration between academia and industry.

Supported by Digital Industry Singapore (DISG), the initiative reinforces the company’s commitment to accelerating AI adoption among businesses in Singapore and across the wider APAC region.

The newly launched facility will focus on translating AI research into practical applications aimed at solving real-world business challenges. It will act as a centre for collaboration among Workato, industry partners, and Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs), facilitating the co-creation of deployable solutions that integrate academic research with industry needs.

Through access to advanced AI and automation tools, the programme seeks to bridge the skills gap and equip Singapore’s workforce with the capabilities needed to meet evolving global demand for AI expertise.

Vijay Tella, CEO and co-founder of Workato, shared that the launch of the AI Lab in Singapore is a step toward making the company’s vision of a future with AI-powered enterprise a reality.

“As we advance autonomous agents and multi-agent orchestration, we’re not just building new technology—we’re deepening the connection between people, processes, and technology,” Vijay commented.

“Through this lab, we’re uniting industry, academia, government, and community to shape the next generation of intelligent, connected enterprises.”

The facility will also drive innovation in autonomous systems and multi-agent orchestration, supporting the development of intelligent technologies that can adapt and collaborate to address complex enterprise problems. By linking academic research with commercial implementation, the lab intends to convert experimental ideas into scalable, real-world solutions with measurable business impact.

Philbert Gomez, senior vice president, head and executive director for Digital Industry Singapore, shared that Workato’s AI Lab will help set the building blocks in further accelerating AI innovation in Singapore.

“This initiative will foster greater collaboration between Singapore’s institutes and industry partners, accelerating the translation of AI research into innovation applications,” Philbert commented.

“The co-development of automation and agentic AI solutions across industry sectors will reinforce Singapore’s position as a global leader in AI and will create opportunities for the local workforce.”

The launch builds upon Workato’s wider education initiative—the AI Institute Alliance—which was introduced at the World of Workato (WOW) 2025 conference in September.

Currently, Workato has trained more than 3,000 students and educators in automation and integration skills. The new AI Lab will expand this effort by offering hands-on experience in creating AI agents, digital twins, and generative AI tools that support digital transformation.

Recognised globally for its expertise in agentic orchestration, Workato enables organisations to unify data, processes, and experiences through its AI-powered platform.
