New Delhi, India – Komerz, the UK-based global commerce growth partner, has appointed Deepak Sangarpal as chief commercial officer for India and Southeast Asia. The appointment comes as the company accelerates its expansion across the region’s rapidly digitalising markets, with a focus on strengthening distribution networks and modernising commerce infrastructure.
In his role, Deepak will oversee the establishment of regional commercial hubs across India, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam. He will also lead the development of category-specific strategies for food, alco-beverages, home care, and personal care.
His immediate priorities include forming go-to-market partnerships, building new distribution channels, and assembling regional teams.
Deepak explained that India and Southeast Asia represent over 1.7 billion consumers in markets rapidly shifting toward digital-first commerce.
“Komerz’s vision of building growth infrastructure powered by AI and data-backed insights positions us perfectly to capture this opportunity,” Deepak commented.
“Our focus will be delivering speed, visibility, and efficiency to make Komerz the engine behind modern distribution.”
With over 25 years of experience in building distribution-led businesses across FMCG, beverages, personal care, and retail, Deepak has held leadership roles at organisations including Godfrey Phillips, 3M, Moser Baer, Orangina Schweppes, and McCormick.
His expertise in transforming fragmented retail landscapes into scalable distribution models supports Komerz’s ambition to address inefficiencies across India and Southeast Asia’s retail sectors.
“With Deepak leading our commercial efforts in the region, we’re positioned to deliver on our promise of building the growth infrastructure that brands need to succeed in today’s rapidly evolving commerce environment,” Siddharth Shankar, global COO at Komerz, stated.
He added, “This appointment marks a pivotal moment in our global expansion strategy and with Deepak’s proven track record in transforming complex distribution landscapes across India and SEA, we are set to enhance new opportunities for these markets.”
The region represents more than 1.7 billion consumers, with traditional trade still accounting for over 70 per cent of retail activity. Komerz’s KOMERZ OS platform, powered by artificial intelligence and machine learning, is designed to resolve supply chain fragmentation and drive efficiency.
India alone hosts approximately 13 million retail stores, highlighting the scale of the challenge and opportunity. The company’s Shared Prosperity model further underpins its commitment to creating sustainable, mutually beneficial growth for brand partners.
Over the next 12 to 24 months, Komerz aims to target distribution-heavy sectors such as food and beverages, alco-beverages, personal care, and home care.
The company also plans to support direct-to-consumer brands looking to scale globally, focusing on channels including HoReCa, travel retail, e-commerce, retail, and general trade, with strategies tailored to local market needs.
