Malaysia and Zetrix AI collaborate to define global Shariah-compliant AI standards

Malaysia — Zetrix AI Berhad, developer of the Shariah-aligned large language model NurAI, and the Government of Malaysia, through the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to collaborate on building an international framework for Shariah compliance, certification, and governance in artificial intelligence.

NurAI, developed in Malaysia, has been positioned as the first Shariah-aligned AI platform. Under this collaboration, Malaysia’s Department of Islamic Development (JAKIM) will play a central role in guiding certification, governance, and ethical standards for AI systems, ensuring alignment with Islamic principles.

The initiative also supports Malaysia’s digitalisation and halal economy agendas while advancing international standards for Shariah-compliant AI. Additionally, the LOI outlines cooperation in Shariah certification and governance, global promotion of Islamic AI, and the creation of JAKIM’s official channel on NurAI.

Together, these initiatives are intended to establish ethical frameworks, position Malaysia as a centre of excellence in the growing Islamic digital economy, and provide a trusted source for halal certification and Shariah guidance. The collaboration also aims to address misinformation while extending Malaysia’s halal leadership into the digital space.

By incorporating technologies such as AI and blockchain into compliance and monitoring processes, Malaysia continues to reinforce its role as a global benchmark in Islamic finance, halal certification, education, and food sectors.

NurAI currently supports Bahasa Melayu, English, Indonesian, and Arabic. The platform is designed to comply with Malaysia’s data sovereignty and cybersecurity policies, helping to reduce reliance on foreign technologies while ensuring trusted, localised AI solutions.
