Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Aiming to enhance public service efficiency, the Ministry of Digital and Google Cloud in Malaysia has recently unveiled “AI at Work 2.0,” equipping government officers with the latest generative AI tools in Google Workspace.
According to companies, the initial phase of the solution was introduced as a pilot programme during the launch of Malaysia’s National AI Office (NAIO) in December 2024.
Building on its success, the upgraded “AI at Work 2.0” now extends the Google Workspace with the Gemini suite to up to 445,000 public officers across the Malaysian government.
Public officers can further leverage Google Workspace with Gemini in four significant ways. This includes assisting them in summarising, analysing, and drafting content based on insights from their emails and documents. Said approach will provide contextually relevant content and richer meetings.
It will also enable them to have more engaging employee and citizen communications, particularly through Google Vids, a GenAI-powered video creation app that is integrated with Drive and Photos. This will help them easily produce explainer videos on various topics despite having no background, as well as communicate organisation-wide updates in a more personalised way and scalably deliver employee training and education.
Next, government agencies can also capitalise on having creative support while streamlining repetitive tasks. According to the firm, the Gemini Advanced app on public officers’ work laptops or mobile devices will help them tackle complex tasks like coding and data extraction and analysis or brainstorm new ideas for projects.
Lastly, it enables the synthesis and extraction of insights from multiple information sources with a GenAI-powered research assistant, allowing public officers to simultaneously interact with up to 250 trusted sources. This includes their legislative and policy documents to get grounded insights for quicker decision-making and improved responsiveness to citizen needs.
They can also upload sources into a notebook and share it with team members, who can then ask questions about the information in those sources and receive answers with inline citations, or generate briefing documents, FAQs, and AI podcast summaries.
YB Tuan Gobind Singh Deo, Minister of Digital, said, “The ability of public and private sector organisations—which touch the lives of virtually all Malaysians—to improve service delivery using next-generation technologies will play an essential role in establishing Malaysia as a digitally driven, high-income economy. Through AI at Work 2.0 by NAIO and Google Cloud, the government is taking the lead in harnessing Gen AI, with the right guardrails built in, to better serve the rakyat under our five-year AI technology action plan.”

YBhg. Tuan Fabian Bigar, Secretary General, Ministry of Digital, also remarked, “We are accelerating our efforts to ensure all government employees have access to gen AI assistants. Many government employees are already on Google Workspace through integration between MyGovUC and Google Workspace.”

AI at Work 2.0 will offer targeted training and expert consultation to equip public officers with the skills to maximise Google Workspace with Gemini. This includes interactive workshops focused on writing effective prompts and identifying key areas where these tools can provide the greatest impact.
