Manila, Philippines – The Philippines’ largest fast-food operator, Jollibee, has recently issued a consumer advisory urging customers to take preventive measures to safeguard their data. This effort comes after the recent cybersecurity incident last month that allegedly compromised the delivery records of 32 million customers.
In the advisory, the company reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the data records of their customers and informing the public about the data breach.
According to the fast-food giant, the said breach involves basic information including name, address, email, and contact number, with some records containing birthday and/or senior citizen ID numbers. This was done through unauthorised access to one cloud data storage platform where the company stored the personal information of their customers.
Immediately after the incident, Jollibee said that it had launched an investigation, activated containment measures, and implemented additional layers of security measures to ensure data protection.
“We have also reported this matter to the National Privacy Commission (NPC) of the Philippines and are working closely with them,” the Jollibee Group further shared.
Following the advisory, they also outlined six preventive measures advising customers to protect their data, such as updating the passwords, enabling multi-factor authentication, staying vigilant, monitoring respective accounts, refraining from oversharing on social media, and getting the right information from official brand channels.
“Your role in data protection is important. We encourage you to take these preventive measures to further safeguard your personal information on the Internet,” the Jollibee Group said.
“We remain committed to safeguarding your data, as keeping your trust is of utmost importance to us,” concluded Jollibee Group.
