Singapore – Twilio, a customer engagement platform, has recently introduced Chris Koehler as the new chief marketing officer to spearhead the company’s global marketing strategy.

Chris offers more than 25 years of experience in customer engagement and marketing technology, with a solid track record of fostering growth and innovation at industry-leading companies.

Before joining Twilio, he was the CMO at Box, where he played a key role in the company exceeding US$1b in annual revenue in fiscal 2024.

He has also spent over 25 years leading marketing, customer success, solution consulting, demand generation, and enablement teams at Adobe Systems, E*TRADE Financial, SunTrust Bank, and Claritas. Chris holds a B.S. in marketing degree from George Mason University and an MBA from Georgia State University.

In his new role as CMO, Chris will focus on expanding the company’s brand awareness across its key markets as well as amplifying their product innovation. He is further set to oversee the marketing strategy of the company on a global scale.

Additionally, he will be instrumental in expanding the market share across Twilio Communications and Segment. He will also have a significant role in driving messaging and positioning for Twilio’s customer engagement platform, which combines communications, data, and AI to deliver enhanced value for customers.

Commenting on the appointment, Khozema Shipchandler, chief executive officer at Twilio, said, “What particularly impresses me about Chris is his no-nonsense style and hands-on approach. Chris’ strong background in product will help strengthen how we market and position our increasingly sophisticated suite of customer solutions in this next chapter of the company.”

Also speaking about the initiative, Chris said, “I’ve long admired Twilio as an innovative, developer-first company, and the opportunity to help build the next generation of customer engagement is exciting.”

“Having interacted with Twilio products as a segment customer, I believe Twilio has a massive opportunity to combine its leading data capabilities with its world-class communications platform to deliver the kind of one-to-one experiences that brands have been trying to achieve for years, but few have realised,” he added.

Chris will report directly to Shipchandler, and he will also work under the expanded management team with the most recent executives hired, which includes Inbal Shani, Twilio Communications’ chief product officer, and Thomas Wyatt, Twilio’s president of Segment.

Inbal Shani joined Twilio from GitHub and will be responsible for all research and development capabilities, product innovation, resiliency, and trust initiatives for the Twilio Communications business.

Meanwhile, Thomas Wyatt is set to take on the role of driving product innovation and go-to-market execution.
