Delinea has completed the acquisition of StrongDM, combining its privileged access management capabilities with StrongDM’s runtime authorisation technology aimed at modern engineering, DevOps and cloud-native environments.
The move is intended to strengthen identity security as organisations increasingly deploy automation and artificial intelligence across hybrid and cloud infrastructure.
As enterprises expand the use of autonomous AI systems and automated processes, access privileges are increasingly required by non-human identities operating independently across digital environments.
These machine-driven identities can create security challenges when governed by traditional credential-based access models designed primarily for human users. By integrating the two companies’ technologies, organisations are expected to gain greater visibility over all identities while applying least-privilege controls at the moment actions are performed.
“Security teams have historically had to balance between strong identity governance policies and maintaining developer and operational speed,” Art Gilliland, CEO at Delinea, stated.
“By bringing StrongDM’s runtime authorisation capabilities to the Delinea Platform, we’re empowering rapid and secure AI adoption for our customers.”
The combined platform brings together enterprise PAM with just-in-time runtime authorisation, enabling access to be granted dynamically rather than through persistent privileges. This approach is designed to reduce reliance on long-lived credentials that have historically represented a significant security risk in complex IT environments.
Additionally, using Delinea’s Iris AI technology, the integrated platform evaluates security policies in real time and governs privileged activities carried out by both human users and automated systems across infrastructure, databases, containers and software development pipelines. The system also provides centralised monitoring and auditing capabilities to help organisations manage access requests and mitigate threats such as credential compromise, phishing and software supply chain attacks.
“Delinea has done an excellent job securing privileged access across traditional infrastructure for nearly a decade at Axos, while StrongDM solved just‑in‑time access in innovative ways for modern database and cloud environments,” Raghu Valipireddy, SVP and chief information security officer at Axos Financial, commented.
“The combined platform will significantly strengthen our security posture by enabling continuous discovery, governance, and real‑time enforcement of least‑privilege access across critical systems and data.”
With the acquisition completed, Delinea aims to position identity-based authorisation as a central control layer for enterprise security, allowing privileged actions by both people and machine identities to be evaluated and authorised continuously as organisations adopt AI-enabled technologies.
