Manila, Philippines – Western Union has introduced a new mobile app in the Philippines designed to give consumers greater flexibility and convenience in managing international money transfers.
The app allows users to both send and request funds, providing multiple options for accessing money and connecting with family and loved ones across borders. Through Western Union’s global financial network, app users can send money abroad to various bank accounts, digital wallets and cards, and retail locations worldwide.
Payments can be completed securely within the app, including the option to use the national QR code payment method, QR Ph. Sign-up takes only a few minutes, allowing consumers to begin transacting quickly.
Gregory Laurent, vice president for the Philippines, Japan, Australia, New Zealand & Pacific Islands at Western Union, shared how the new app is a significant milestone in serving consumers in the Philippines to better connect them with families and loved ones across the globe.
“For many in the country, remittances represent a life with more opportunity and hope,” Gregory commented.
He added, “At the same time, an increasing number of Filipinos opt to send funds abroad, where our new app provides this opportunity with the flexibility and trust we provide at Western Union.”
The app enables users in the Philippines to request remittances from family and friends abroad, including those based in the United States, Australia, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and other markets with large Filipino communities.
Once a request is made, senders overseas can complete the transfer online, while receivers in the Philippines can choose to collect cash at retail outlets, receive the funds in their bank account, or have them deposited directly into a digital wallet.
Users also have the option to redirect incoming funds to their preferred payout method after a transfer has been initiated.
To help manage remittances effectively, the app includes a tracking function where users can monitor transactions by entering the money transfer control number (MTCN).
According to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), remittances to the Philippines reached an all-time high of USD $38 billion in 2024, with the United States being the largest source of remittances, followed by Singapore.
The app is now available to download on Google Play and App Store.
