Malaysia – WeChat Pay, a mobile payment and digital wallet service provider, has recently announced that it will no longer accept new registrations for its e-wallet users in Malaysia starting August 1st, 2024. This also includes the discontinuation of its payment services as of September 1, 2024, as part of its business strategy adjustment.

In a recent statement, the company further disclosed that users can withdraw their e-wallet balances on their e-portals until December 31, 2024. On the other hand, users can also choose a special withdrawal arrangement starting January 1, 2025.

Instructions regarding the process will be found by logging in to their WeChat account, tapping “Me – Pay and Services – Balance – Withdraw,” and then following the procedures to complete the balance withdrawal as soon as possible.

In addition, questions will be entertained by reaching out to their customer service during the transition period.

Talking about the initiative, the company further said in the statement, “It was a great honour to have your support throughout the years. We appreciate your understanding and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Meanwhile, WeChat has assured users that existing messaging services and other functions available on the platform, including Weixin Pay, will stay unaffected and operate as usual.
