Unilever, Google Cloud agree on five-year AI and data partnership

Singapore – Unilever and Google Cloud have entered into a five-year collaboration aimed at advancing digital capabilities across the consumer goods group’s operations through the expanded use of AI, data infrastructure and cloud-based platforms.

The arrangement is intended to support growth across Unilever’s international portfolio, which includes brands such as Dove, Vaseline and Hellmann’s. The companies plan to apply Google Cloud technologies, including its enterprise AI platform Vertex AI, to develop enhanced capabilities in brand visibility, performance analysis and AI-supported marketing.

The initiative reflects changing patterns in how consumers discover and purchase products, with interactions increasingly shaped by conversational and automated digital systems.

“As brands are increasingly discovered and chosen in environments shaped by AI, we must lead this shift,” Willem Uijen, chief supply chain and operations officer at Unilever, stated.

“This collaboration with Google Cloud sets a new level in how technology can power commerce and growth in the fast-moving consumer goods industry, ensuring Unilever is agile, fit for the future, and equipped to unlock value at every level of the company.”

As part of the agreement, Unilever will migrate its integrated data and cloud environment to Google Cloud in order to establish a group-wide digital infrastructure centred on AI.

The move is designed to accelerate demand generation, convert data into operational insight and enable faster responses to shifts in market conditions. The technology base will also facilitate the development of automated workflows capable of managing complex tasks across different parts of the organisation.

“In partnering with Unilever as it boldly reimagines its business processes, we are not just modernising legacy systems; we are deploying our advanced models, such as Gemini, to create a system of intelligence that reasons, learns, and acts,” Tara Brady, president, EMEA, at Google Cloud, commented.

The collaboration will prioritise the creation of advanced commerce and marketing systems, the consolidation of enterprise applications and data platforms within a unified cloud framework, and the broader adoption of emerging AI tools.

Google Cloud’s models, including Gemini, are expected to play a role in enhancing analytical and decision-making processes across Unilever’s value chain.
