Philippines – TikTok Shop has partnered with the Philippines’ Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) for Consumer Welfare Month, promoting buyer protection and consumer education. These range from understanding product and seller information to knowing where to seek help when transaction concerns arise.
As part of the partnership, TikTok contributed a session to the consumer organisation assembly organised by the DTI. Titled “Sharing Product Safety Online: How to Turn Product Safety Information into Consumer Action”, it focused on communicating product safety information and consumer rights through digital platforms.
J. Em Ang, a Filipino business consultant, certified public accountant, tax advisor and content creator, led the session. Ang is known for simplifying financial literacy and taxation topics for Filipino audiences.
The discussion showed consumer organisations how to turn product safety warnings, recalls, counterfeit and unsafe product information, and consumer advisories into clear digital content. It also covered principles and content ideas for short-form advocacy videos, with an emphasis on accuracy and transparency.
Alongside the DTI collaboration, TikTok Shop says it applies platform policies and safety measures intended to keep counterfeit goods, unsafe products and bad actors off the platform. These include seller verification, product compliance checks, detection technology and intellectual property protection, as well as return and refund processes after purchase.
According to TikTok Shop’s report covering July 2025 to July 2026, the platform rejected more than 208 million products before listing. The company says this equates to 99% of violative products being removed proactively, with a further 2 million restricted or prohibited products removed after listing.
Yves Gonzalez, Head of Public Policy for the Philippines of TikTok Shop, framed the campaign as a way to support informed purchasing decisions.“At TikTok Shop, we want our shoppers to feel confident about buying on the platform. This is why we work hard to develop and implement safeguards across the shopping journey, from product listing and seller compliance to post-purchase assistance.”
“We also recognize that consumers need clear, accessible information to understand product details, assess potential risks, and know what steps they can take when a concern arises. Through our #TikTokShopSmart campaign, we are able to empower consumers to make informed shopping decisions,” added Gonzalez.
Ahead of the Mega Sales, Tiktok Shop covers finding quality and authentic products on TikTok Shop Mall, product safety and certifications, consumers’ right to redress and anti-counterfeiting. It also offers guidance on what to consider before making a purchase.
Shoppers are encouraged to review product descriptions, check customer ratings and reviews, and assess seller information before placing an order. They can also look up the applicable return and refund processes and the channels for raising transaction concerns.
